St John Plessington Catholic College

Year 7 Mass of Welcome

After a busy summer and start of the new term, I hope that your child has settled in well and is forming strong and lasting friendships with other students. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many of our newest students and seeing them settle into our college community quickly.

The Year 7 students are currently working with the Shrewsbury Youth Mission Team, who are leading an ‘Inside Out’ retreat day. The theme for this day has been 'Fly High', focusing on their unique gifts and talents. The pupils have really enjoyed spending time together as a form group and taking part in all the activities put together by the team.

As part of our celebrations for the new Year 7s we will also be taking the pupils to St Anne's Church in Rock Ferry for their Year 7 Welcome Mass on Friday 4th November. As a Catholic school the Mass is considered the source and summit of the life of the Church as from its celebration the life of the Church flows. Our Year 7 Mass of Welcome will have a focus on Pope Francis' message in his encyclical Fratelli Tutti (human fraternity), where he speaks of creating a "culture of peace" that welcomes all and "celebrates unity in diversity".
