As you may be aware, we have sent a number of Year 8 students home to self-isolate. The students we have sent home have been in close contact with a student that has tested positive. In addition we have been made aware of a number of pupils who are isolating due to having covid symptoms or have had to isolate due to being a close contact out of school.
As a precautionary measure, we are taking the decision to request that the remainder of Year 8 students also stay at home. The students are to return on Monday 12th July.
If your child has already been instructed to isolate until after that date, they should only return when the 10-day period of isolation has been completed.
Google Classroom
All Year 8 lessons will be taught on Google Classroom, following the same timetable as your child currently follows. The teacher will take the register at the start of the lesson and then be available for the duration of the lesson to set tasks, provide feedback and support. Lessons will end 5 minutes earlier than usual to enable your child to get set up for their next lesson. Academic Review will continue to be at 12:30 and is a great opportunity for your child to check in with their Form Tutor and keep up to date.
If your child has returned their device and needs one to be able to access their online learning please contact year8@stjohnplessington.com and we will arrange for a device to be available at Reception tomorrow morning.
How to stop COVID-19 spreading
There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19
- wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
- use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- wash your hands as soon as you get home
- cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
- put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
If you do develop symptoms, you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/ or by phoning 111.

Free School Meals
If you are in receipt of free school meals will be able to arrange the provision of a food parcel. If you would like to take advantage of this, can you please contact the year team via email - year8@stjohnplessington.com and we will put this in place. Ideally, it will need to be collected from our college reception by someone who is not self-isolating. However, if this is not possible, we may be able to arrange a home delivery but would then need to provide your contact details to a third party.

Ms M Sharratt
