St John Plessington Catholic College

Change to End of Term Date

Dear Parents and Carers

Following the government announcement regarding the contract tracing expectations during the Christmas holidays for school leaders and the implications for families over the festive period, school will not be open to pupils on Friday, 18th December 2020.

Pupils should attend school up to, and including, Thursday, 17th December 2020, at the normal times.

Public Health England has agreed a 6-day window after the final day of teaching in which schools are asked to remain contactable so they can assist with contact tracing where necessary. This will allow enough time for positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases to be identified and confirmed by a test and for relevant contacts in the education setting to be traced

Please be aware of the following information and relevant arrangements regarding positive cases in the holidays:

  • For the first 6 days after Thursday 17 December, if a pupil tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), having developed symptoms within 48 hours of being in school, we will identify close contacts advising self-isolation, as the individual may have been infectious whilst in school, the school should be contacted via schooloffice@stjohnplessington.com ONLY. Please do not message/contact school via Google Classroom or social media as these platforms will not be monitored.
  • Where a pupil or staff member tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), having developed symptoms more than 48 hours since being in school, the school should not be contacted. Parents and carers should follow contact tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace.
  • As the end of term is now Thursday 17 December, school should not have to contact you regarding contact with a positive case beyond Wednesday 23 December. Had we have finished as planned on Friday 18 December, contact tracing by school leaders would have continued until Christmas Eve and through to Christmas Day.

Yours faithfully
