St John Plessington Catholic College

18-Jan-23 Thursday - Further Update

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As you know, we have had to take the difficult decision to close the school from 10.15 a.m. onwards today. There was a power outage in the local area last night, which at 8 p.m. we were informed was resolved. We opened the school as usual this morning under suitable conditions.

However, at 9.30 a.m. there was a power outage across the building, resulting in no electricity, heating, internet, phone lines or catering facilities. Therefore, for the safety and welfare of staff and students, we had no other option but to close the school.

Can I take this opportunity to congratulate our pupils on their calm and orderly exit from the building today, which was reflective of our core values, Pride, Respect and Determination. Whilst at home for the remainder of the day, pupils should log onto their google classrooms, where staff will provide them with work to complete and be on hand to assist should your child require support.

We currently have engineers working to resolve the issues. Once we have further clarification on the situation I will write this afternoon to confirm arrangements for Friday. Phone lines remain down and therefore I would encourage any urgent correspondence to be sent to schooloffice@stjohnplessington.com and we will do our best to respond as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind regard

Mr McLoughlin
