Art - Tate Trip Black History Month

October was national ‘Black History Month’ and SJP’s A Level Art students recently attended an event at Tate Liverpool which was organised through a collaboration between the gallery and Liverpool JMU.

The focus of the event was on how historically Art reflected and affirmed social ills such as racial inequality, and yet is used today by contemporary artists to challenge those same prejudices and perceptions. Students attended presentations both in lecture hall and gallery settings that introduced them to the history of slavery, colonialism, their present day legacy, and the role of Art in promoting equality across gender, race, and disability.
