Catering

At SJP our catering is provided by a private company called Harrision Catering

Who are Harrison Catering?

We are a small, family owned business that has been appointed to work in Partnership with St John Plessington Catholic College to provide the school meals service. Harrison Catering Services Limited are extremely experienced in providing food for children and already provide school meals in a number of primary, secondary and independent schools across the UK.
Our aim is to produce food freshly prepared and cooked meals from fresh ingredients where possible. We aspire to provide meals that are healthy, satisfying and enjoyable.

What food will we be serving your child?

We recognise that every child has different tastes and requirements, and these differ tremendously between each school. We always try to work in partnership with each individual school to develop a localised menu within an agreed framework that represents each schools preferences.

Government standards for school meals

Our menus always meet and exceed the much publicised Government standards for school meals. It has always been our objective to base our offer on home cooked foods, freshly prepared on site where possible and using fresh ingredients with minimal amounts of fried or processed foods.

Nutritionally balanced menus

We are committed to working in partnership with each school to provide a service that meets the nutritional needs and expectations of pupils and staff. Our menus are created with input from our Company Nutritionist, Dr Juliet Gray, a well respected expert in the field of nutrition and dietetics. We also have a licence for Saffron, which provides an essential aid to ensuring a balanced and varied nutritional menu.

We are keen to ensure that the approach to nutrition education taken in the classroom is reinforced by the food messages given in the school dining room.

Tasty and nutritionally balanced school lunches that children love to eat, contributes to their general wellbeing and helps them achieve their full learning potential.

The Eat Well Plate

Five a Day

By offering fresh fruit, plentiful salads and a choice of vegetables, we aim to make it easy for children to reach the recommended five portions a day.

Whole school approach

We aim to emphasise the healthy eating message as part of the whole school approach to the healthy lifestyle which is recognised as being so important.

Introduce your child to school meals

We hope that your child will be joining us for lunch and benefit from the experience of eating with others, developing a taste for different foods and gaining confidence to make food choices.

Taster sessions

We carry out regular taster sessions to encourage children to try new foods and mature their palate.

Marketing and promotions

Throughout the school year we have a programme of events. The promotions are aimed at encouraging children to eat a nutritionally balanced school meal by creating additional interest and enjoyment. Wherever possible, we link these promotions to the school curriculum.
